What we've done

Some of the most impressive projects we have worked on have been in multi million pound apartments in Kensington, London, and several others in the surrounding areas.

Here is a brief selection of some typical works:

Mr McLoughlan, Airth, Scotland

Mr McLoughlan had bought an old travertine floor from the Imperial War Museum. It had been lifted but left lying outside for several years. His tiler laid the floor for him. We instructed him not to grout the joints but to leave them and we would resin fill the joints with colour matched resin.

We also filled in the honeycombed holes in the surface which had appeared with the stone being outside for so long.

We then ground and polished the surface so that it looked like one sheet of travertine. With the resin being left high and then ground down, it is impossible to even feel a joint once the polishing process starts.

Mr No Name, Ponteland, Newcastle

Mr No Name built a large house on an exclusive estate. All of the floors are beautiful marbles and travertines. The slabs of marble are 2.4 x 1.2 mtrs. They have been laid and book matched. (Book matching is when the natural veins in the stone are matched up so that the veins/patterns match completely from one tile to the next.)

The tiles were laid, the joints were colour matched resin filled and then, to the utter despair of all watching, we spent the next weeks grinding the surface off the top of the high gloss tiles until the floor is completely flat and with a scary chalky white surface. Then we start the polishing process. When finished, the floor again looks like one sheet of marble. High gloss, fantastic colours crystalised... beautiful.

Mr No Name2, Ponteland, Newcastle

Mr & Mrs No Name had bought a recently constructed house on an exclusive estate. The builder had lain travertine through the hall, into the kitchen and into the utility room. The travertine was honed and filled, it was very dull and vapid and it had many cracks. Typically cracks will appear across doorways between rooms and halls.

We drilled out and resin filled the cracks, then we polished the tiles (no grinding) and crystalised the tiles. The floor looked fantastic, all the colours brought out, it looked clean and well cared for.

Some months later Mrs No Name commented that it still looked great and it required so much less cleaning than before.

Mr Raymond, Ponteland, Newcastle

Mr Raymond built a contemporary home in Ponteland. He laid CremaMarfil tiles throughout the open plan areas. He complained that the high gloss finish had disappeared almost straight away. It transpired that he had been washing the floor with domestos and other bleaches in an effort to keep it clean and restore the shine. This had etched the marble. Restoring etched marble is not a DIY job.

We restored the surface in the badly etched areas. We also demonstrated our grinding and polishing process on a badly scratched area near his front door. He was so impressed with the results that he asked us to grind and polish the whole floor.

We showed him how to look after his floor and left him a complimentary bottle of our own formula Neutral Clean when we left.

Newcastle International Airport

The terminal building at the airport is terrazzo, terrazzo is made from chippings of different types of marble in a cement or resin matrix. Sometimes mixed and poured on the job and then ground flat and polished when it has set. Or the terrazzo tiles are made in a factory and then laid like normal tiles. We carried out several invisible repairs to the tiles at the airport.

Mr Footballer, Newcastle

Travertine floor. Flood damaged.

The brief was to repair the cracked tiles to lift and replace the loose tiles which could be removed and to refix the tiles using other techniques, those tiles which had electrical under floor heating mats installed.

No grinding, but some polishing with diamond impregnated pads on the rotary scrubbing machine.

Red Diner, Chinese Restaurant, Chinatown, Newcastle upon Tyne

Called out to a Star Galaxy granite floor. It was looking in very poor condition. The wrong sealer had been applied incorrectly. The floor looked as though it had been washed with a dirty mop, covered in swirl marks and mop patterns.

These would not come out.

We stripped the sealers. Cleaned the floor, and then correctly applied one of our own brand clear enhancing impregnating sealers.

The difference was astonishing.

Also worked for the following:

  • Curry's Electrical
  • PC World
  • Various hotels (some nationals)
  • Pubs
